Have recently had to have cardiac surgery, I am from overseas and have a reciprocal medicare card. I called AHM multiple times prior to my surgery to make sure I wouldn’t be charged more than the gap fees that the doctors would charge, and was told each time that I wouldn’t have to pay more than $1,000. 8 weeks post surgery I receive a call from the secretary of the surgeon stating that the doctors hadn’t been paid, and when I contacted AHM they stated that because of a technically with my medicare card, and despite confirming that they would p…
Read moreay prior to the surgery, they would not be paying, leaving me with a bill that will be over $15,000. Hugely stressful situation especially in the current environment. Would not recommend AHM or any affiliated company to anyone. Dishonest and not willing to keep to their word. I will be escalating to the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman, would encourage everyone else to do the same, maybe then they’ll have to take these matters seriously.
